Meeting Reports The regular meeting of the Long Island Emergency Vehicle Technicians was held on Wednesday, November 8 at the North Bellmore Fire Department – Station #1 – Vamps Club. Fifty members enjoyed an excellent dinner – the LIEVT chefs’ hats were presented to the hosts.

President Steve Velazquez opened the business meeting with a pledge to the flag. He talked about the holiday celebration which will be held at the Thatched Cottage in Centerport on Thursday, December 7. There will be no charge for members in good standing and a guest. An RSVP is a must.

He reported that ten members took 23 EVT tests – thanks to our own member (who moonlights as a college instructor) Chris Lo Preto for the preparation and arrangements.

The members were reminded of the blood donation site for member Tommy Gleason’s daughter.

Steve told the members Kovatch Mobile Equipment has invited the Long Island group along with the Connecticut Fire Mechanics to spend a day at their plant in Pennsylvania in the spring.

Steve introduced Chief Instructor John Brown of the Nassau County Fire Academy. He distributed an apparatus check list they use as well as NFPA 1911 Service Tests of Fire Pump Systems on Fire Apparatus – 2002 edition. Chief Larry Baron of the Academy discussed their testing process in depth. There was a very interesting Q & A session.

The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at the West Sayville – Oakdale Fire Department – 1201 Montauk Highway. Notices will be mailed and emailed. The members who have email access should send them to LIEVT.org. Please refer to the website http://www.lievt.org for the most recent information.
