Meeting Reports The regular meeting of the LONG ISLAND EMERGENCY VEHICLE TECHNICIANS was held on Thursday, October 25, 2012 at the North Bellmore Fire Department. An excellent dinner was served to the forty some attendees. Click 'read more' for the minutes, click the image for pictures from the meeting.

At 8 PM the meeting was opened by the President, Bill D’Alessandro, who led the pledge to the flag. Our members received a warm welcome from North Bellmore Fire Commissioner Peter Gibbons. He praised the technicians who keep the emergency vehicles ready for any call.

The president asked Kit to read the minutes of the meeting at Setauket on September 20, 2012 – the minutes were read and approved.

Our treasurer, Barbara Connelly, reported that we have 70 paid members. She dicussed the new bank account –The President, Bill D’Alessdro, the Vice-President, Danny Peluso and Barbara are signers on the account. A motion was made to accept the treasurer’s report – the motion was seconded and approved.

Our Vice-President, Danny Peluso, was scheduled to talk to the members about technology in the fire service. Unfortunately, he was called out of town on a family emergency.

Fortunately, Phil Verteroso of Kussmaul Electronics was in attendance and discussed a new full day class at their facility. Their last class was well attended and the members felt they had learned a great deal. Phil discussed their products in depth with the membership.

Bill D’Alessandro asked the attendees which classes they would prefer to have. There was a great deal of interest in Ford or Chevrolet Chiefs’ cars. Bill said he would have representatives from Ford and Chevrolet make presentations and have a Q & A with the members. The next item of interest was on multi-plexing. Bill said he would have a Snap-On dealer come – probably in January. He is also in discussions with Fire Research Corp. in regard to having a full day class at their facility in Nesconset.

[edit: The last training at FRC was in 2005! See the notes from that event]

A raffle was conducted with prizes donated by the Board of Fire Commissioners of North Bellmore, Fire News and Fire Research Corp.

The next meeting was scheduled for November 29 in Copiague but was cancelled because of the devastation On Long Island caused by the storm Sandy.

The meeting was adjourned.
