Meeting Reports LIEVT held the regular meeting at the East Meadow Firefighters’ Benevolent Hall on Wednesday, March 9, 2016. Forty plus members were in attendance. They enjoyed an excellent dinner, dessert, coffee and drinks served by Artie and Phyllis Sperr.

The president, Bill D’Alessandro, opened the meeting with an East Meadow member leading the pledge to the flag and a moment of silence for our departed members and the troops overseas. He asked Kit to read the minutes of the last meeting at Copiague in January. The minutes needed one correction – they read that West Hempstead would host the next meeting on March 9 – the meeting was changed to East Meadow. They were accepted with this correction by Nick and seconded by Gary. Kit read the thank you letters she sent to Cutters Edge and the Copiague Board of Fire Commissioners.

Barbara Connelly, the treasurer, had a conflict and could not attend. She asked Kit to report that SAF-Holland (Neway Suspensions) would exhibit on the evening of May 12 and needed a department with a shop and a lift that could accommodate a truck. After much interaction among the members, it was agreed that Westbury FD with a drive on lift would host the May 12 meeting.

THE MAINTENANCE CONNECTION – Welding – a host department is needed for April – date to be determined.

June 30 – Wantagh FD – Ferrara is Sponsoring Scott Detweller, Guest Speaker – NFPA New Apparatus.

Bart from FRC is working on a class.

Kit reported that she has a stack of pictures of the association going back over 30 years. She asked for suggestions from the members. There were no decisions made – she will bring them to the next meeting.

Kit asked if anyone knew the whereabouts of George Benson. Ray Dyrcz called an acquaintance who just happened to be in George Benson’s company – George picked up the phone. Kit reported that she had an email from her congressman that there was unclaimed money in the NAEVT account at 151 Lexington Road in Shirley. A George Benson is listed at this address. George denied any knowledge. Kit reminded him that she had brought a professional association manager from D C who was willing to take on NAEVT at no charge until it was well established again. George insisted that he and his daughter take it over and we never heard from it again. George said there was no interest and no money. Many of our members in the room were eager for a viable organization. When Kit called George’s daughter to see what was happening she reported that she should not be bothered because she had a sick child. We heard nothing until this unclaimed account showed up, It would be nice if we could get the money for LIEVT but I don’t know if there could be a chance.

The president, Bill Alessandro, introduced Gary Margerum who supplied the members with a complete file on the Command Light. He went over every detail with the members – an motivating Q & A followed.

A raffle followed with wine from Hendrickson and Jack McLoughlin, PL Custom hats, three bottles from East Meadow FD, an FDNY pullover and two Starbucks gift certificates from FRC, golf packets from Island Wide Fire and lighted keychains and pens from Nassau Fire Apparatus.

The members saw the Command Lights on Gary’s truck as they exited the meeting.
