Zoom hangout - May, 2020

  • Contributed by:
LIEVT News About 14 members attended an impromptu test of using Zoom to connect and meet during the COVID-19 pandemic. Since most firehouses have implemented a closed door policy to ensure the safety of firefighters and since NY government recommendations against large gatherings make getting together in person not feasible the LIEVT board decided to test out using Zoom to collaborate online. The test went well, it was good to see everyone that managed to attend and we planned to set up a more formal meeting using this method in the near future. A full list of attendees was compiled by Kit and will be added to this post as time allows.

Image Galleries

  • Contributed by:
LIEVT News For many years photos taken at our organization's meetings and events have been stored on Flickr (a photo sharing site owned by Yahoo). This social photo-sharing website allows only a limited number of photos to be stored there for free and we had reached the maximum number. Using that site also meant that images couldn't easily be put into the pages here. I took some time and moved all the images I have to this website (where we have unlimited space) and then went through every meeting report and added an image link to the full album on each one. You can also go through the Gallery directly by clicking the Gallery link at the upper-most right-hand corner of this website (there are some other interesting links along the top to check out while you're there). Each gallery has a link back to the minutes associated with that event. This new system isn't quite as nice as Flickr, but it is very much more easy for me to maintain. It also makes the images more accessible (since they're not buried in Flickr) and associates them with the meetings better. Let us know what you think!

Our Beginnings awards dinner pamphlet

  • Contributed by:
LIEVT News Kit brought a copy of an old awards dinner program from 1999 to the last meeting which I scanned to share. The pamphlet has a picture of the Fire Mechanics as gathered in 1985 to form the group which was then officially known as "Fire Mechanics District Society of New York". When this group started the process for non-profit status, the name was changed to reflect the fact that the member mechanics are EVTs which has a broader scope than the term "Fire Mechanic". Hopefully Chris will be able to find the original image for us someday! Its only a short little pamphlet, but its a little piece of history. Check out the sponsors page for the list of companies that were there in the beginning. Click the image of the pamphlet below to download the pamphlet in PDF format.

LIEVT Logos - which one's do you like?

  • Contributed by:
LIEVT News We've created a page with all the LIEVT logos we've played with over the years. Each logo is numbered in the list for easier reference. Members are urged to take a look and email their preference to logo@lievt.org which will be sent to officers for a tally. PLEASE MENTION THE NUMBER YOU LIKE IN THE EMAIL!

For members (and any other users of the site) that don't wish to send in email - we'll put up an informal web poll in the left hand column under the Whats New block. Note: Nate can't (quickly) figure out how to open the poll for anonymous users, so you'll have to log in to use the poll feature. If you don't remember your username or password this may be even more painful than emailing us!

LOGOs are HERE

Important article for Ambulance technicians

  • Contributed by:
LIEVT News Gerry Walker recently pointed us to an important article for anyone working on Ambulances or Rescue trucks. Click this link to read the article, entitled Ambulance Transports by Jason Schneider which appeared on the Fire Chief Magazine website on May 1. The article describes the very real dangers of infectious disease transmission both to EMS personnel and technicians who work in or on our nation's rolling hospitals.
